Prince has had a career spanning over multiple generations with a persona that is recognizable around the world. He’s a true musician, outlier, and advocate for musician’s rights. Here are 13 interesting facts about Prince:
1. Kesha broke into his home before she was famous
She sure has brass and a story, involving Prince, worth hearing.
2. He’s not a fan of covers
Prince doesn’t like to watch other performers because he thinks of how he would rearrange their composition. He doesn’t like covers because he doesn’t believe in someone taking credit for something originally created by another artist. He’s noted that music is the only art form that allows “covers”. No, Sinead O’Connor didn’t originally write or sing “Nothing Compares 2 U”, although her single went platinum as one of the top songs of the 90s.
3. He doesn’t use profanity.
Many interviewers don’t use it in his presence out of respect for the artist.
4. He doesn’t believe in counting the days or time
He has a philosophy about not thinking about time and only thinking about the future. He’s even joked that this is why he still looks the same today as he did years ago.
5. Prince spent a long time out of contract
He famously fell out with Warner Bros Records in 1996. ~Cue the lost years~ Now, he’s resigned with the company and has regained ownership of his catalog.

For an artist that’s been around for over 30 years, it’s uncommon for so few interviews to exist with Prince. The artist seems to not view interviews as a vehicle for publicity, but as an opportunity for people he respects, admires, and considers friends.

Prince music is becoming a rare find as it almost doesn’t exist online, except for Tidal. Prince respects music in its physical form; so do his fans because his vinyls don’t stay shelved for long.

It’s hard to believe that someone that’s achieved Prince’s level of fame wouldn’t have a cell phone. Actually, it’s hard to believe that anyone in 2015 would be a functioning member of society without a cell phone, but he’s never been one to follow the status quo. Enjoy your privacy, Prince.
12. Prince music is nearly impossible to find on the Internet
He is active in trying to find those committing copyright infringement because if he doesn’t do it, who will? Music isn’t closely monitored on the internet and he believes it’s because we don’t value it as much as we used to. We still value Prince’s music because he’s worked to make it valuable and precious.

13. Prince is a huge supporter of Jay Z’s Tidal service
Prince appreciates that Tidal is run and funded by a music artist. He’s all for artists supporting other artists. He exclusively released his album on the streaming service, which is huge for an artist that isn’t too fond of his music floating around the internet. HITnRUN Phase One will also be available to non-subscribers, which is a first for the service.
